BEGINNING TRAINING: Fundamentals In Biblical Counseling Course
Road to Emmaus is an ACBC certified training center. We desire to raise up counselors in the Pacific Northwest who will faithfully minister God’s Word in their churches and communities as they counsel. Our certification means ACBC will accept our 30 hours of instruction in the Fundamentals in Biblical Counseling Course as satisfactory towards meeting the minimum education requirement when you desire certification with ACBC. Instructors are experienced counselors with over 100 years of combined counseling or pastoral experience. We offer our beginning training in counseling every spring. In 2025 the dates are March 14-15, April 11-12, and May 2-3, and the cost is $100 for the whole course. Friday nights the classes start at 5:45 PM and end at 9:30. Saturday classes are from 8:15 AM to 5 PM. Register by clicking the button below.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING: "Delighting in God's Word" by Rick Elzinga
Does your Bible reading need an upgrade? If Jesus were preaching at a church near you, would you go to hear him? Of course you would want to hear the very words of God. But we already have the very words of God—the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16)—and yet it often sits idly on our shelves. One of my biggest disappointments as a pastor has been to know so many fine Christians, only to discover how inconsistent many of them are in Bible reading.
I grew up in a church, taught in a Christian school for five years, and then spent over thirty-four years as a teaching pastor. During my seventy years of life, I have known hundreds of Christian families and thousands of believers. And I have often asked, “How are you doing with your Bible reading?” What I have heard is often discouraging, especially when I contrast those answers with what the Bible says:
“Blessed is the one . . . whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
And who meditates on his law day and night” (Psalm 1:1–2).
“[The words of the Lord] are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:10).
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).
“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight” (Jeremiah 15:16).
And even if we fall short of actually delighting in the Bible, we still need to be reading it. As Jesus states:
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
The Apostle Paul puts it this way: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV).
Yes, our Bible reading may need an upgrade! Many Christians have admitted to me that they only read the Bible two or three times a week (or they read every day but only two or three verses!) We need to grow in our delight and appreciation for scripture. We need to revitalize and enrich our Bible reading. We need to be reading and studying the Bible daily to gain God’s wisdom and God’s perspective. Otherwise what the Lord told the prophet Hosea may become true of us: “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (4:6).
The purpose of this course is to help you find God’s word “more precious than gold, than much pure gold . . . sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:10). My goal is that you will learn to read scripture with deeper understanding and appreciation so you can discover wisdom and insight, and get to know God better as you do!
Cost is $75 for three weekends of interaction on March 14-15, April 11-12, and May 2-3. (2 hours on Friday night at 3 hours on Saturday). This course will be restricted to 20 participants, so please consider your attendance seriously. For ACBC counselors who attend this course, it is worth 7 CEUs. Register by clicking the button below.
